The Nose February 2025

Old Gaelic Unveils Digital Playbook, New Structured Attack

In a sign of its ever-evolving nature as we celebrate 50 years of Gaelic, OG has entered the digital age with an online, interactive playbook.

“I still prefer salt and pepper shakers, cutlery and beer glasses on a bar top, but like cotton long-sleeve jerseys, we all must adapt,” said Head Coach and Slate constructer Dan Roth. In a “Nose” special yet to be released elsewhere, we have found a high-level attack addition to add to the demonstration below:

“As far a structure of attack, I find if you we lift our Fundamentals Under Pressure Always, we can find our Structured Attack Creates Chaos.”

Old Gaelic 50th Anniversary Celebrations, Jersey, Come into Focus

As we advance through 2025, 50th Anniversary Celebrations and commemorations are coming into focus. See what’s being laid out so far:

Saturday, May 31: 50th Anniversary party. Place TBD, but likely Men’s Club grounds or the ranch. Expect a lunchtime kickoff.

50th Anniversary Jersey Designs

In honor of the 50th, and the fact that the current sets of jerseys are a decade-plus old, it was decided commemorative jerseys were in order. After several submissions and vote following the most Democratic of policies, the following jersey design has been selected. (Note final variations are still in works regarding font). The text will represent the names of all 300+ Old Gaelics in our history. These will be completed and worn during the 2025 Championship Defense run:

50th Anniversary Tour

Arrangements are still in the works, but start saving your pennies for an international Old Gaelic tour. We’ll be in touch, but pencil in a January Island tour, an homage to the 70s Bahamas Gaelic tours of lore!

Citing 2028 Cycle, “YoSon” Throws Hat in Political Ring

Always forward-thinking, David “YoSon” Young has made his proclamation to enter the 2028 political foray. When asked for comment on his political stance, party, or position he desired to fill, he replied. “I don’t fuckin know. That’s why I’m starting so early.” However, with such a pro-crust chicken pot pie to platform, the future seems limitless for this promising young candidate.

When asked a follow up if he knew entering politics required more than literally taking his hat off and throwing it into a ring of people, Young replied. “Fuck you, Diegel.”

Old Gaelic Defeats Talented North Bay Side in Thrilling Victory

Old Gaelic traveled down 83 on a beautiful October Saturday taking on first place North Bay in a top of the table match. With a star-studded backline, OG knew it would have to bring the grit to take home the W and regain its place on top of the division standings.

The visitors struck first with an opening blow about 15 minutes into the match, as lock JT Hammond pounded it in after a series of picks got the Gaelic close. North Bay swung back with two straight tries and a conversion to take 12-5 lead. With the game getting close to halftime, rookie back Lucas Schneider scooped up a dropped box kick, offloaded before he hit the deck to Sergio Acala, who swung the ball wide to wing Alex Schaefer, who then popped to reserve center Alex Schlager (Alex2Alex2.0). Center Tyler Johnson, kicking for injured Captain Brady, slotted the conversion to make it 12-all. That scored held as the combatants took the halftime break.

Early in the second half, the North Bay outside center got loose and the home team regained a 7-point lead after the conversion. Next it was Gaelic with a powerful try from prop Broc Shives after another series of picks got the Gold close. With the game knotted up, center Max De’llano, recently returned from a first half injury, broke through the North Bay line for the bounceback try, and the Johnson conversion knotted it up again, 26-all.

Shortly after, eight man Lee Townsend picked off a NB pass and took it back to paydirt for the 33-26 lead, but there was still plenty more work to be done. After North Bay regained the lead but missed the conversion, Gaelic again pounded the ball deep in the hosts’ territory. The trusty pack inched closer and closer with yet another series of picks before Acala broke the line to seal the game, with the conversion making the final score 40-31.

In the short match, a short-handed Silver side put up a strong fight with five tries, but ultimately fell short to North Bay. Down three tries to nothing, Townsend doubling up for some action at wing, kicked deep and recovered his own to give Gaelic a spark. The visitors came out firing in the second half, with four tries. Two thundering RJ Fisher tries sandwiched veteran prop Levi Harmon’s. Paul Holmes threw on the boots to help close the match and scored the game’s final try; veteran Dean Ashton played a steady 12 and chipped in with two conversions.
